Directing a race is a complicated process. This is our explanation of how we're running T-rad.
Q. Why only two aid stations?
A. This is more than a race. It's a mountain adventure. Don't make mistakes.
Q. Are headphones allowed?
A. Sure. But no MP3 players. Boomboxes only.
Q. Will cups be provided?
A. No, sorry. We want to Forest Service and Mother Nature to love us. Without cups, we are eliminating a potential source of litter!
Q. Where is the nearest airport? Can we carpool?
A. Technically, Telluride has an airport, but don't be ridiculous. Montrose and Durango both have good airports, but the closest major airports are Denver and Salt Lake City. Yeah, Telluride is remote. That's the point.
Q. What is the weather like?
A. Usually bad.
Q. Is there an in-climate weather course?
A. I don't know what that means. But if we have bad weather we're simply going to extend the after-party into a before- and during-party, and just dance the day away.
Q. Do I need to qualify for this race?
A. Nope. But you'll probably die if you aren't ready.
Q. What are the cut-off times?
A. If you aren't to the first aid station by noon, we cut your foot off. If you aren't to the second aid station by four, we cut your hand off. If you aren't to the third aid station by eight, we cut both your hands off. And if you aren't to the finish by eleven, we cut your head off.
Q. Why do we have to go through ultrasignup.com to register?
A. Because we're too busy with all the stuff that MATTERS to design our own online payment system.
